The PDA Computer

A PDA, or personal digital assistant is a device that's intended to allow people to organize their work while on the go. While the first PDAs were just a place to store addresses, phone numbers, to-do lists and calendars, today's PDAs can work as a fax machine, cell phone, Internet portal, and much more. There are a few different types of PDAs, but most either work with Palmtop or Windows Mobile software. Every PDA can connect to a desktop or laptop PC, though some require additional accessories.

Some PDA models only work using a stylus, while others offer a small keyboard. PDAs may also come with voice and handwriting recognition software and perhaps a voice recorder. They come with varying degress of preinstalled software, and they may also function as a phone and a wireless internet portal. Some PDAs have a slot for a memory card, allowing you to access, store and transfer any kind of data. The best PDAs work much like small computers, allowing you to work on word processing functions, spreadsheets and other tasks.

PDAs are priced from about $100 to $500 or even more. The more expensive a PDA is, the more it usually does. Some models have rechargeable batteries, while others take replaceables. The type and size of display screen will also be a big influence on the price of a PDA. If you are looking for a PDA, you should compare a few models before you make your choice. Features that add to the price may not be relevant to you, and you should consider screen size, resolution, brightness and ease of use. Look for a model that will help you without giving you too many things you do not need. PDAs can be very useful, and once you use a good one, you will wonder how you ever managed without it.

With the smartphones these days people don't buy PDAs as much as they used to
